Warning Signs of Prostate Cancer

There are many symptoms of prostate cancer. Early detection and treatment are incredibly helpful and could save your life. It’s important that you never overlook any warning signs of prostate cancer.

Doctor and patient

Urination and Ejaculation

Difficulties or abnormalities with urination or ejaculation are common indicators of prostate cancer. Some patients experience a burning sensation during urination or ejaculation. You may discover that you have a frequent need to urinate, or you may have noticed blood in your urine or semen. Have you experienced difficulty starting or stopping a stream during urination? That’s a relatively common symptom. A weak or decreased flow is not unheard of, especially as men get older, but it can be a sign of prostate cancer as well. Some patients have noticed that they need to hold back while peeing, while others find that beginning urination is challenging. In some cases, erectile dysfunction can be a symptom of prostate cancer. All of these are potential warning signs of prostate cancer, and you should speak with your doctor about any symptoms that you experience.

Pain

As men get older, joint pain is certainly not uncommon. However, it can indicate serious medical conditions. Have you been experiencing pain in your bones? For some patients, that’s an indicator of prostate cancer. You may have noticed pain or discomfort in your pelvic region. Other men have experienced lower back pain, or they’ll have pain in their upper thighs instead. Although prostate cancer isn’t the only possible reason for these symptoms, such signs can warn you of prostate cancer.

Other Causes

As mentioned above, prostate cancer isn’t necessarily the only cause of these symptoms. There are other medical issues that are also possible. Non-cancerous diseases can cause similar experiences. You may instead be suffering from a urinary tract infection (UTI) or benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). In many cases, BPH has been mistaken for prostate cancer. A prostate cancer test can help to more accurately diagnose your symptoms.

Advanced Signs

During its advanced stages, prostate cancer can have other indicators. You may experience unexplained weight loss, various degrees of fatigue, or a swelling in your lower extremities. While there are many prostate cancer causes, ultimately it will always need treatment, and the sooner the better. Don’t hesitate to contact your doctor and report your symptoms.
